Storytime @ Home with...Mrs Forbes

Would you like to learn to sing like Taylor Swift or Bruno Mars?

Louie the Tui wanted to learn to sing too.  He didn’t start out too great at first.  Will Louie the Tui get better at singing?  Listen very carefully as Mrs Forbes reads the story to find out. Be sure to leave a comment below with your answers to Mrs Forbes' questions.

Waiata Time with Whaea Kiri

Kia rite koutou!  It’s Waiata Time with Whaea Kiri!

Kia Ora Koutou!
Here is a waiata ā-ringa (action song) from the East Coast about their tūpuna (ancestor), Paikea.  This is one of the waiata that I would love for the tamariki to learn as a new item/ new action song.
Don’t be shy, (kaua e whakamā). I’ve put the words below, so follow along and give it a go.   I’d love you to share a video of you doing your best version of Paikea.

Uia mai koia,
whakahuatia ake
Ko wai te whare nei e

Ko wai te tekoteko kei runga
Ko Paikea Ko Paikea
Whakakau Paikea
Whakakau he tipua
Whakakau he taniwha – Hei
Ka ū Paikea ki Ahuahu Pakia
Kei te whitia koe
ko Kahutia-te-rangi
Me ai tō ure ki te tamahine
a Te Whironui
nāna i noho te Roto-o-tahe
Aue! Aue!
He koruru koe, koro e

Team 4 Reading Champions

In Team 4, Mr  Samuels and I have an amazing group of learners who we try and make time to read with everyday.
There are 10 awesome readers in our group reading fat various levels.

We have a sticker chart system and each reader has their very own folder where we keep a track of every book they have read and when completed they get to pick a sticker to place next to the book that they have read.
Once each reader has reached the goal of 10 stickers (10 books) they get to pick from the prize bag!!!

Our kids who reached their first goal of 10 books were very excited to pick from the prize bag today and we are extremely proud of them.

Mr Wright & The Senior Choir

Our very own Mr Wright using his unique talents as a musician and singer to help form a choir group made up of Y7 and Y8 students from Team 5.
In the afternoons Mr Wright runs a session with the choir then they head over to the senior block to have a combined singing practise with the rest of their senior peers. John and Sione  who are our guitarists have been fortunate enough to have guitar lessons with Mr Wright and have absolutely enjoyed and benefited from this.
We are so proud and blessed to have you share your talents with our tamariki Mr Wright the kids all think you have an amazing voice! and so do we!! Kia Ora Matua Roni.

Support Staff Week "Celebrating The Wins"

This month has been a blessing for our very own Child Support Staff with our Pay Equity Settlement and we wanted "celebrate the wins" with the rest of our staff whanau at Pt England School. We put on quite a spread that day and were surprised with another morning tea on Friday provided by our generous teachers, Board of Trustees and our amazing principal Mr Burt!
Even before the changes that have taken place we as  Support Staff members at Pt England School have always been treated equally and are constantly thanked and reminded that we are appreciated. I am thankful to be a part of an amazing group of human beings. "WE ARE HAPPY, WE ARE THANKFUL, WE ARE FAMILY"

Sticking to what we know!

Home schooling is very interesting for both my kids and I.
I have always known that "teachers" are the true champions when it comes to multi-tasking but to do it with constant praise and reassurance is next level.
Cullai loves the fact that he gets to watch his class mates eat breakfast during their class hangouts in the morning.
Jane loves that she gets time to finish things off properly without any distractions or her being a distraction.
I still do the "eyes on me", at first the kids thought it was funny but I think it's not the same without a whole classroom full of kids to repeat after me. We are still sticking to what we know and always trying to follow the Pt England Way even at home.

Miss Timmi Gets Fit!

This morning I got managed to get up extra early to "Get Fit"!!

It was a beautiful morning for a walk and I ended up walking 10kms starting from Glendowie through to St Helliers down around Glen Innes and all the way back home. I have had a lot of time during this lock down to go for long walks and try out some YouTube workouts.
